Phil Toms specialises in double bass, piano and keyboards which he plays around the UK.

His musical interests bridge the gap between classical, jazz, film music, musical theatre and popular music.

In addition to lecturing in Colchester, Phil enjoys performing at Longleat House, working with Louis Clark on Hooked on Classics with the English Pops Orchestra and conducting local choral societies.

Phil is also a talented orchestrator and arranger. Apart from his arrangements and double bass playing for Other Loves he has orchestrated and performed for artists such as Fairport Convention’s Judy Dyble and songwriter Alistair Murphy (“The Curator”). Phil is renowned for his quick turnaround and effective arranging skills.  He says “I aim to enhance existing tracks with just the right notes – and I do this in consulation with the performer/composer.”
