Few people knew that Molly, the mother off the singer Nick Drake, was herself a wonderful songwriter.
In 2012 Gabrielle Drake released a CD of her mother’s home recordings, together with a book of her poems. Molly Drake’s songs are of their time but filled with a beauty and a melancholic wistfulness. Her poetry is extremely moving. Gabrielle Drake writes about her mother here.
Jeremy has recorded one of Molly’s songs. It’s called I Remember and it is deceptively simple in format and lyrics, but it has a nostalgic kick at the end which is profound and unexpected (Jeremy says). You can hear Jeremy’s recording of I Remember on his CD More than ever.
