It’s been quite a year for William Shakespeare! He died on April 23, 1516 and so, all over the world people have been commemorating his life and work.
The vast majority of Shakespeare’s plays have songs and snatches of songs in them – street music of the time, tunes that Shakespeare picked up and sometimes his own expressive lyrics. Take for example the beautiful ‘Fear no more the heat o’ the sun’ that the exiled brothers sing over the body off the young soldier they assume to be dead in Cymbeline.
Jeremy has set a number of these songs to music and has performed a show – ‘Shakespeare and other folk‘ – in a number of countries (Malta, Cuba, Mexico, Poland, Brazil & Chile) so far this year.
He will soon be making a CD of these songs – to be announced here.
